Preliminary Task - Research- TASK 4 - Aims and Intentions
Aims and intentions
In my research I analysed
different genre magazines including fashion, luxury, lifestyle, teen and music
magazines. The analysis of magazine front covers and double spread sheets of
different genre magazines helped me to understand that everything that is done
in the magazine, every font, colour and layout is chosen by a designer for a
reason. The reasons are mainly to attract the target audience.
Therefore, for my magazine covers and double spread sheets I am going to
use certain colours, fonts and layout styles to attract my target audience.
I am going to create two same
magazine genre front covers but issued in two different seasons – summer and winter. Also, one double spread sheet for my summer magazine.
The genre that I am going to create my magazines in is teen genre. My target audience are adolescents
aged in between 16 - 24 years old.
As inspiration magazines I am going to use Teen Vogue, Elle and Seventeen.
For my summer
magazine issue I intent to utilise vibrant warm pallet colours, such
as pink, purple, white, yellow, blue, orange and red. I chose these colours because
they are very typical to summer magazines that are issued in summer as they communicate
the season of a year. Also, I am going to include pictures that are bright,
colourful and of young people. The clothing that cover model is going to wear
is going to be a summer dress and trendy accessories to again attract target audience.
I am going to write in simple English and refer to events and things that young
people are most likely to know about. For example, the use of hash tag will be
a good headline to include as the target audience is an active user of social
media where hash tags are popular.
In my double spread sheet I will be talking about things you can do in
London in summer if you are a teenager or young adult. This kind of topic of advices
is very typical for teen magazines as the target audience is very open minded
and they always seek for a new ideas and suggestions. Also, summary of
interesting activities in the city will be definitely helpful for those who are
suffering of boredom in the summer as not everyone goes on holiday in summer
break.
For my winter
magazine issue I am going to use
cold pallet colours, such as dark blue, white, black and bright red. These
colours are also very typical to winter magazines as cool colours suggest that
it’s winter. Also the use of setting is very important for the cover. Therefore
I am going to use picture that is taken in mountains and snow is visible. My
cover model or models is going to wear winter clothing.
